Hira Cave
Hira Cave is the cave in which the Messenger of God, Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him, used to retreat before the mission and the revelation of Gabriel to him with the Qur’an. It is the place where the revelation was first revealed to the Prophet. Hira Cave is located in the east of Mecca, on the left of the one going to Arafat, at the top of “Mount Al-Nour” or “Mount of Islam,” at an altitude of 634 meters, and it can only accommodate four or five people. It is 4 km from the Grand Mosque. The Cave of Hira is a gap in the mountain with its door towards the north. It is four cubits long and one cubit and three-quarters wide. Only five people can sit in it at the same time. The inside of the Cave of Hira is facing towards the Kaaba, and the one standing on the mountain can see Mecca and the Kaaba (after the construction of the second floor of the Haram, it was no longer possible to see them), and the first verses of the Holy Qur’an to be revealed were beginning the revelation with a verse: “Read in the name of your Lord who created” [Al-Al-Alq]. :1] From Surah Al-Alaq.
Hair and the cave of Hira
It is considered one of the most famous mountains of Mecca, as it is located in the east of Mecca to the north, and it contains the cave in which the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to worship, and in which the noble verses were revealed, and in which the poet Awad Ibn Al-Ahwas says:
For I am by the One who made the Hajj Quraysh
His tissues and what Hira’ collected
Aren’t we the most noble of the heavy-duty people?
And the greatest of them is fire in the belly of Hira?
Cave of Hira and history
It was narrated that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, climbed the peak of the mountain with his companions. So he moved, and the Messenger said to him: “Stay in Hira, and your only duty is a prophet, a friend, or a martyr.” There was no plant in the cave except a small thing.
